Kevin Dubrow’s Death Ruled Accidental Overdose
From the Associated Press on Monday, Decemeber 10:
LAS VEGAS (AP) — The death last month of Kevin Dubrow, lead singer for the 1980s heavy metal band Quiet Riot, has been ruled an accidental cocaine overdose. Clark County coroner spokeswoman Samantha Charles confirmed the cause Monday after toxicology results were received Monday.
Dubrow was found dead Nov. 25 at his Las Vegas home. He was 52.
Quiet Riot was perhaps best known for its 1983 cover of "Cum on Feel the Noize." The song, featuring Dubrow's powerful, gravelly voice, appeared on the band's album "Metal Health" — which was the first by a metal band to reach No. 1 on the Billboard chart.
DuBrow recorded a solo album in 2004, "In for the Kill," and the band's last studio CD, "Rehab," came out in October 2006.

Original QUIET RIOT Bassist Explains How KEVIN DUBROW's Body Was Discovered
Bassist Kelly Garni, who was one of the founding members of QUIET RIOT, has released the following statement regarding the passing of the group's lead singer, Kevin DuBrow:"I want to thank everyone who refrained from jumping to conclusions and starting rumors. This has been a very traumatic tragedy to me and because of the fireworks usually associated with Kevin, I was expecting an avalanche of negativity that both me and Frankie [Banali, QUIET RIOT drummer] usually have to deal with. And I'm happy to say that for the most part, everyone did nothing but express good feelings. Unfortunately what negativity that did occur was internal and while inconvenient, I was able to handle. "On Sunday [November 25], while I was working I got a phone call from Kevin's home security company. It was at about 3:15 in the afternoon. I am the only one who gets a call whenever his alarm goes off and usually I go to his house and let the guards in to check things out. However, Kevin had had his front doors replaced a few weeks ago and I did not yet have a key, so I told them to send the guards and if there was a problem I would go there and take care of it. They also told me that Kevin's voice mail was full. That was the first sign of trouble to me. "I got on the phone to Frankie in L.A. and asked if Kevin was with him. He said no and that he hadn't talked to Kevin in about 10 days. He said he thought Kevin was with one of his girlfriends. From there, I started to track her down. I have never met her and only after Frankie gave me her name was I able to find her, which was relativity easy. By now about 10 minutes had passed. She said that Kevin had missed Thanksgiving with her (one of two girls he was supposed to have thanksgiving with. Well, he IS Kevin). She said she had gone to his house and left him many messages without response and that she had a very bad feeling about this. Right then, my other phone rang. I have three phones in my house and little did I know soon all three would be ringing nonstop. I put the phone down on the table with girlfriend #2 still on the line and it was Frankie on the phone. He told me what had happened. I lost all composure at that point and told FB I would call him back. "Now to the other phone where I had the unpleasant task of telling #2 the news. Needless to say she freaked. GF#1 was Lark Williams who was in San Fran at the time. She was worried about Kevin as well and she had called a paramedic friend of hers to go check on Kevin. The guy happened to be very close to his house. With Lark on the phone, the guy went to Kevin's and was looking into windows and told Lark he could see his keys on the counter. Lark told him to break in immediately. It was a very ballsy and good thing she did. The guy broke in (hence the call from the alarm co.) and found Kev. This all happened in about 20 minutes time. From there, police, fire, everybody was called. He was found in bed. I talked with a detective who was there and they hadn't even removed Kevin yet. He said, 'We have found no signs of foul play and are ruling this an accidental death.' "Last I heard from Kevin's brother, there was going to be a service this Sunday in Corona del Mar, Caalifornia. Kevin will be buried next to his father. But then I was told that the coroner was still not done so that was kind of up in the air. I have not heard from them since. "Peter Margolis [director of the upcoming Randy Rhoads documentary film] was one of the first people I called. I had had to tell the news to Kevin's brother as well and I really didn't want to go through that again with others who are important in our lives. He was very kind was immediately saddened and said right off he wouldn't wish this on anybody. I read his statement and can say that he did in fact want to work out the differences between Kevin and himself. "From here, I am not going to point out all the other things to you that people say when an icon dies. "Kevin was what he was and he lived his life as such. "To me, Kevin was my brother for 35 years. And like brothers, we had our differences. But many many times over dinner, we discussed how great it was to be able to sit across from each and laugh about all the terrible things we said and did to each other. He was always there for me, and I was always there for him. "The last time I saw him was on our mutually shared birthday, October 29, He gave me a big hug and a really great present. The best present, though, was the hug. "I will miss him terribly. I pray that those who had issues with him don't take this opportunity to celebrate this. "If you knew Kevin well enough to have a beef with him, then you knew him well enough to know he had a very good side to him as well. "Thank you all for all your kindness. Please remember him for the one thing he wanted to be since he was born: A ROCK STAR."

Confirmed: QUIET RIOT Singer KEVIN DUBROW Dead At 52
QUIET RIOT drummer Frankie Banali has confirmed the passing of the group's singer, Kevin DuBrow, at the age of 52. In an e-mail to Spain's The Metal Circus, which had requested a comment from Banali on the rumors of DuBrow's death, the drummer wrote, "I can't even find words to say. Please respect my privacy as I mourn the passing and honor the memory of my dearest friend Kevin DuBrow." UPDATE: The same statement can now be found on Frankie Banali's official web site.
Michael Politz of The Vegas Eye reported earlier today that DuBrow was found dead in his Las Vegas home on Sunday, November 25. According to Politz, DubRow — whom Politz calls "one of my closest friends" — recently celebrated his 52nd birthday in New Orleans "where he ate great food and even caught THE CULT at The House of Blues."
Although the band has yet to issue an official statement on the matter, bassist Kelly Garni, who was one of the founding members of QUIET RIOT, has posted the following message on the Randy Rhoads web site RandyRhoads.tk:
"I ask this to all of you not only for myself but for other friends and family. I ask that no one here offer any speculation or opinions, theories or other things that could be construed as negative or, and I'm sorry for this, even sympathetic, right at this immediate time. I am already within hours of this having to deal with untrue rumors and speculation and that only adds fuel to that. There is a tendency for the subject of Kevin to incite flames on every board and now is not the time for that. I will explain to everyone here the facts and the truth in the next 24 to 48 hours as I realize this will effect us all. So please, until then, be patient. All details and other pertinate info will be passed on to you here when it becomes available to me. Thank you."

Randy Rhoads Documentary Needs Your Help!
The makers of the new documentary film about late OZZY OSBOURNE/QUIET RIOT guitarist Randy Rhoads have issued the following update:
"As most of you are probably aware, our list of interview subjects is quite extensive. Most people have been located and I've have conversations with them about participating in the film. As we get towards the end of filming, we are finding that there are a few people who are still un-found. Having exhausted most Internet searches and friends/family, I am going to leave it up to the fans to help find the missing pieces."
The filmmakers are looking to contact the following people:
* Scott Shelley - Randy's guitar teacher
* Harold Friedman - early QUIET RIOT roadie
* Grace Miller - Friend
* Pete Mertons - Randy's guitar tech during his years with OZZY OSBOURNE
* Jake E. Lee - one of Randy's replacements in OZZY OSBOURNE's band
If you know how to contact any of the above, send an e-mail to fullshred_2000@yahoo.co.uk.

Director of Randy Rhoads Film Attacks "Ultimate Randy Rhoads"
I just sent in a simple "friend request" on MySpace to Peter Margolis, Director of the Randy Rhoads Film.
I was totally surprised and crushed by his response!
"Why are you honoring Kevin Dubrow by having the link to his bullshit statement "THE TRUTH......"
Get rid of that link and I will be happy to add you as a friend. You have a link to me and the film which is great however,
I am not adding any friend that has a link to anything related to Kevin Dubrow. "
Here is my reply:
"The link to Kevin Dubrow's statement is there as a "news" item, nothing more, in the same way that I would report anything that has to do with Randy. I report it for the fans, in an unbiased fashion, not to take sides in any way.
I cancelled my friend request with you. What happened or happens between your camp and the Kevin Dubrow camp, or any other camp for that matter, is a personal matter between you and them.
I don't appreciate anyone dictating how I will run my site or Profile, as you would not appreciate anyone dictating to you.
Randy was an a big part of my life and this is my way of giving back to him and keeping his memory alive. It is a big shock to me that you would attack me because of your deep rooted feelings for Kevin Dubrow.
I was looking forward to the film and was very excited that Randy's story was finally going to be told and I was excited about the attention the film was giving to Randy.
This just totally ruined the film for me, because I'm always going to associate this attack with it.
Thanks for ruining! "
He has every right to deny a "friend request," but there is no need for unsolicited personal attacks! Is he really interested in making the best film possible about Randy Rhoads, or is he more interested in making Randy Rhoads fans take his side on issues? He has the Rhoads' approval and control of the film. Why get involved in petty feuds and risk alienating Randy Rhoads fans? What would the Rhoads family think about situations like this?
I was really excited about the new interest the film was bringing to Randy and how it was re-energizing all of his fans. That is why it is such a shock and disappointment that this has occurred! It was harsh and totally uncalled for!
The "Ultimate Randy Rhoads" site and MySpace Profile are my way of giving s omething back to Randy, for all of the inspiration and motivation that he provided to me.
The links to the Randy Rhoads film and Forums will remain, as they are there for the fans to learn more about Randy. If I were to take them down, it would be a great injustice to Randy. He had nothing to do with this, but then again,..... neither did I!

Kevin DuBrow on the Randy Rhoads Film Project
"THE TRUTH, THE WHOLE TRUTH AND NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH."
"As anyone who really knows me will tell you, I adored Randy Rhoads. In my life Randy Rhoads and Frankie Banali have been my 2 dearest friends. Friendship means everything to me and I take it very, very seriously. If not for the start that Randy gave me I would not enjoy the career that still supports me well to this day. I miss his hilarious personality and not a day goes by that I don't think of him. I would have loved to have be involved in a accurate film about Randy who is still my favorite guitar player and best friend.
When Dakota films director Peter Margolis called me to be involved in the proposed Randy Rhoads documentary I was hesitant to say the least. With a recent book full on inaccuracies based on the authors opinions rather than facts about Randy was released, I was apprehensive at best. I relayed to him that my biggest concern was for the film to be totally about Randy and not about others trying promote a book or new album and their own personal agendas at the expense of associations with Randy be it real, fabricated or imagined. Unlike others involved and contrary to what some may believe, I have no ulterior motives.
Peter assured me that this would not be the case. I told him that I have arguably the most accurate and complete memory from those years and would be willing to provide him with any and all of the massive amount of archival material in my possession which is extensive.
After being advised to do some careful investigation on my part, a few days later I realized that this film and some of it’s participants indeed had their own over riding priorities and Randy would not be represented as accurately or in many ways in a truthful manner. Then and only then did I decide to bow out.
The recent article from Guitar World titled “Randy Rhoads gets the Shaft” and the Blabbermouth post titled “Randy Rhoads dissed by former band mate” is when I truly realized that my sources were accurate in how this film would be handled. In all the five years that I played with Randy we never once had an argument and spent many hours playing around in the Hollywood area. In a million years I would not have a negative thing to say about Randy. He was the greatest guitarist I ever knew and worked with and one of the two most beautiful people I have had the privilege to share both my personal and musical life with.
Below please find the original letter that I sent Peter Margolis via e-mail:
To: Mr. Peter Margolis/Dakota Pictures
Peter,
Please accept this e-mail as my formal notice to decline your kind offer to participate in your planned film project "Randy Rhoads Documentary" that you previously approached me about.
It is my continued devotion and affection for the memory of Randy Rhoads and our time together that dictates that I keep those memories and feelings private so that they are not misconstrued as an attempt to monopolize on either Randy's life or his untimely passing.
I will continue to hold Randy's memory dear and private as always. I wish you much success in this worthwhile endeavor. Do Randy's memory, family and legacy proud.
Sincerely,
Kevin DuBrow
(End of Letter)
While I do wish them success with the film, my protective feelings for the memory of Randy will not allow me to be a part in this in any manner.
With no disrespect intended to all involved, wouldn't it be a fitting tribute to the memory and greatness that still is Randy Rhoads for the film makers and everyone involved to decree that all the proceeds and profits from this film after legitimate non-inflated artists or production cost be designated as a gift to a charity chosen by the Rhoads family? Or perhaps that profits from the film be contributed to a Randy Rhoads music scholarship? What a fitting and selfless tribute that would truly be! I guess I can dream, can't I..........? "
